Manik Saha on Wednesday expressed firm confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to deliver a stellar performance in the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Addressing media persons after participating in a roadshow at Khumulwng, the headquarters of the TTAADC, the Chief Minister said the programme was organised under the theme “Empowering the Janajati, Empowering Tripura.” He maintained that since Narendra Modi assumed office as Prime Minister, development initiatives for Janajati communities have gained significant momentum across the country. “Our state government is committed to working in the same direction to ensure inclusive growth and holistic development,” Dr Saha said.

Criticising the current administration of the ADC, the Chief Minister remarked that its functioning was “not at all satisfactory” and called for a change in leadership. “A change is the need of the hour, and that change is possible only if the BJP secures a majority in the forthcoming elections. The response we are receiving from different corners of the state gives me confidence that the people will give us a decisive mandate,” he asserted.

Dr Saha also expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the Village Committee (VC) elections, stating that the BJP would significantly improve its performance. “In both the ADC and VC elections, we are confident of securing a stellar victory,” he added.

Responding to allegations that salaries of TTAADC staff were withheld ahead of Holi, the Chief Minister dismissed the claims and clarified that the delay was due to a technical issue. “As soon as the matter came to my notice, I inquired into it and directed that the problem be resolved immediately. The funds have since been disbursed,” he said.

Highlighting welfare initiatives, Dr Saha noted that the recent hike in stipends for hostel inmates under the Tribal Welfare Department would impose an additional burden of around Rs 30 crore on the state exchequer. Nevertheless, he described the decision as essential for supporting tribal students and strengthening educational opportunities in the region. “We have big plans for the TTAADC, and this region will witness real development in the days to come,” he affirmed.

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who was present at the event, echoed the Chief Minister’s confidence. He said the BJP has steadily expanded its organisational presence in TTAADC areas and is well-prepared for the polls. Criticising the CPI(M), he alleged that the party had earlier treated ADC residents as a vote bank but had since lost its foothold, while the BJP has made steady electoral gains and is ready for a strong contest.
