AGARTALA, March 3: Rajib Bhattacharjee, president of the Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rajya Sabha MP, on Tuesday said the party has completed eight years in power in the state, marking the anniversary of the formation of the first BJP-led government in 2018.

In a statement issued on the occasion, Bhattacharjee recalled that the BJP assumed office on March 3, 2018, ending the 25-year rule of the Left Front in Tripura. He expressed gratitude to party workers and supporters for their contribution to the BJP’s victory in the 2018 Assembly elections, which he described as a historic political shift in the state.

He said that over the past eight years, the BJP-led government has been working with a focus on public welfare and development. Highlighting the party’s organisational growth, Bhattacharjee noted that the BJP has expanded its presence from the Panchayat level to Parliament, strengthening its grassroots network across Tripura.

Referring to the “double engine” government — with the BJP in power both at the Centre and in the state — he said coordinated efforts have been made to realise the vision of a “Viksit Tripura.” According to him, alignment between the state government and the Centre has facilitated the implementation of key development initiatives.

Bhattacharjee stated that several welfare schemes targeting women, youth and farmers were rolled out during the party’s tenure. He said the government introduced programmes aimed at socio-economic development and improving the delivery of benefits to eligible beneficiaries.

The BJP returned to power in the 2023 Assembly elections, continuing its governance in the state after first forming the government in 2018.
