A new Shelter House is coming up near Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala under the initiative of the Tripura Urban Livelihoods Mission (TULM). The facility is being developed to provide safe and affordable accommodation for patients and their attendants, as well as temporary shelter for underprivileged individuals in need of food and lodging.

The project aims to address a long-standing challenge faced by families traveling from distant parts of the state for medical treatment. Many patients and caregivers often struggle to find affordable accommodation near the hospital. Once completed, the Shelter House will offer a dignified and secure environment, easing both financial and logistical burdens.

To assess the progress of construction, Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, State Mission Director (SMD) of TULM, visited the site on Wednesday. He was accompanied by senior officials, including the Chief Engineer of the Urban Development Department, the Assistant Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, and members of the TULM state team. The inspection focused on the pace of construction, quality standards, and the timely completion of the facility.

Officials highlighted that the Shelter House will be equipped with essential amenities to ensure comfort and safety for residents. Beyond supporting hospital visitors, the facility will also serve as a refuge for vulnerable individuals requiring short-term accommodation.

Authorities expressed optimism that the initiative will significantly strengthen Agartala’s social infrastructure. By combining urban development efforts with social welfare objectives, the project reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and improved public services. Once operational, the Shelter House is expected to provide much-needed relief and support to countless families across Tripura.
