Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday hailed the Union Budget 2026–27 as a landmark and transformative step for agriculture and farmers’ welfare, describing it as a “game-changer” in India’s journey towards a Viksit Bharat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a farmers’ gathering at Gandhigram in the Bamutia Assembly constituency, in the presence of Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, Chowdhury said the Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reflects the central government’s strong commitment to inclusive growth, rural prosperity, and farmer-centric development. He emphasized that the financial roadmap is deeply aligned with the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas, ensuring that the interests of farmers remain central to national progress.

The minister highlighted key provisions aimed at strengthening agricultural infrastructure, enhancing productivity, and promoting self-reliance by reducing dependence on imports. He noted that the Budget strikes a fine balance between fiscal discipline and people-oriented relief, extending support to farming households while also providing relief to the middle class.

Chowdhury welcomed initiatives focused on skill development and preparing rural youth for emerging opportunities in agri-technology and allied sectors. He also underlined reforms in taxation and the banking system, which he said would improve credit access and financial inclusion in rural areas.

Referring to social sector allocations, the minister said proposals related to healthcare and education would have a direct impact on villages and farming families. He cited initiatives such as the development of medical tourism hubs, strengthened caregiver support systems, and the construction of 16,000 new secondary schools as steps toward improving quality of life in rural India.

He further praised the Budget’s emphasis on women empowerment, highlighting new support measures for women entrepreneurs that build upon the success of the Lakhpati Didi programme. Additionally, he said reductions in prices of essential medicines and solar equipment would ease household expenses for farmers.

“The Union Budget has clearly outlined a growth model driven by innovation, self-reliance, and human capital,” Chowdhury said, adding that it lays a strong foundation for sustainable agricultural and rural development.
