On the first day of the 2026–27 Budget Session, MP Biplab Kumar Deb welcomed the President’s address, noting it highlighted India’s overall development, resilience in adversity, and achievements over the past year. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and for guiding the nation toward a “Developed India” by 2047.

Deb emphasized India’s growing strength across sectors over the past eleven years. He noted historic reforms in maritime trade, including a ₹70,000 crore package for shipping infrastructure and modernization of outdated maritime laws, positioning India as a key player in global trade.

Highlighting social development, he referred to a new hospital for women and children in Agartala, which will strengthen healthcare in the Northeast. He also praised the 10-year success of Startup India, with over 2 lakh startups now operating nationwide and more than 20 lakh youth employed, including 45% with at least one woman director.

The MP noted that over ₹50 lakh crore has been invested in infrastructure, generating employment for youth and upgrading over 1,000 ITIs to meet future skill demands. He mentioned initiatives training 60,000 youth for the semiconductor industry and one million for AI, ensuring employment and skill development opportunities.

Deb also highlighted poverty alleviation and social security achievements: 25 crore citizens have risen above the poverty line, 4 crore homes built for the economically weaker sections, over 12.5 crore families received piped water, and more than 10 crore households got LPG connections. He praised Ayushman Bharat, which provided free medical care to over 2.5 crore people last year alone.

Recognizing Northeast India as a growth engine, he cited over 50,000 rural roads constructed, ₹80,000 crore invested in rail connectivity, and ongoing semiconductor industry development in Assam. According to Deb, these initiatives integrate the historically neglected region into India’s mainstream growth trajectory, promising a brighter and prosperous future.
