Agartala: The main programme of the 48th Kokborok Day was held on Monday at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan with the participation of students from various schools across the state. The cultural and commemorative event witnessed enthusiastic involvement from students, teachers and guardians, marking the importance of Kokborok language and heritage.
According to official sources, the programme commenced at around 7 a.m., during which participating students were provided breakfast in the form of cake and a Frooti drink. The event continued through the morning with cultural performances and activities and concluded at approximately 12:30 p.m. After the conclusion of the programme, students were again served refreshments, which included one orange and a slice of watermelon.
However, some confusion emerged later in the day regarding the food distribution, leading to rumours among a section of students and guardians. It was alleged in some quarters that only watermelon had been provided to students, raising questions over the arrangements made by the Education Department. The issue gained attention after the distribution of the afternoon food packets, which were comparatively smaller in size.
Several students later clarified that they had indeed received cake and Frooti in the morning hours, followed by fruits after the programme concluded. An official from the Education Department explained that it was not feasible to distribute all the food items in a single packet. Therefore, refreshments were provided in two separate phases—breakfast in the morning and fruits after the event—which may have led to the misunderstanding.
The official further stated that the food distribution was carried out strictly in accordance with the tender specifications approved for the event. There was no deviation from the prescribed menu, and all participating students were served as planned.
Meanwhile, allegations raised against the Education Department regarding the issue are currently under review. Authorities have assured that the matter will be examined thoroughly, and any clarification required will be provided after completion of the investigation.
