The birthday of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder was observed in a meaningful and unique manner on Sunday, as a series of service-oriented programmes were organised in Ward No. 14 under the initiative of Corporator Snigdha Das Deb. Instead of traditional celebrations, the day was dedicated to social welfare activities aimed at benefiting residents of the ward, especially senior citizens and children.
As part of the birthday observance, doctors visited the homes of elderly residents above 70 years of age to provide medical check-ups and consultations. Essential medicines were also distributed free of cost, offering much-needed support to senior citizens who often face difficulties accessing healthcare. Residents expressed appreciation for the doorstep medical services, describing the initiative as timely and thoughtful.
In addition to healthcare outreach, a cleanliness drive was conducted across different parts of the ward. Local volunteers, along with community members, participated actively in cleaning streets and public spaces, reinforcing the message of civic responsibility and cleanliness. The drive aimed to promote awareness about hygiene and the importance of maintaining a clean environment in urban neighbourhoods.
The day’s activities continued into the afternoon with the organisation of a “Sit and Draw” competition, which saw enthusiastic participation from children and youth. The competition was held in three different categories, encouraging creativity and artistic expression among young participants. Parents and residents welcomed the initiative, saying it provided a positive platform for children to showcase their talents.
Speaking to reporters, Ward No. 14 Corporator Snigdha Das Deb described the occasion as a day filled with joy, gratitude, and service. “On our Mayor’s birthday, we decided to celebrate by serving people. Standing beside citizens and working for society is the greatest celebration one can have,” she said.
The combination of healthcare services, cleanliness efforts, and cultural activities was warmly received by residents. Many noted that such initiatives reflect a people-centric approach to leadership and set an inspiring example of celebrating special occasions through community service and social responsibility.
