A 17-year-old boy lost his life after being run over by a passenger train in South Tripura district on Tuesday morning, police officials said. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and once again highlighted concerns over safety near railway tracks.
The deceased has been identified as Tushar Reang, a resident of Durgarai Para under the Santirbazar Subdivision. According to police sources, the incident occurred at around 6.30 am when the Agartala–Sabroom passenger train was passing through the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the teenager had gone close to the railway tracks when he was struck by the speeding train. The impact was fatal, and he died on the spot. Local residents alerted the authorities immediately after the incident.
Police personnel from the Santirbazar police station reached the spot and recovered the body. The victim was later taken to Santirbazar Subdivision Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had already succumbed to his injuries. Following medical confirmation, the body was sent for necessary post-mortem procedures as part of standard legal protocol.
Police officials said that all required legal formalities are being completed and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. Statements from witnesses and local residents are being recorded, and railway authorities have also been informed.
While the exact reason for the teenager’s presence near the tracks is yet to be established, officials have urged people, especially children and young adults, to exercise extreme caution around railway lines. Railway tracks are designated high-risk zones, and trespassing or loitering near them can lead to fatal accidents.
The untimely death of the young boy has left his family and the local community in deep grief. Residents have called for increased awareness campaigns and safety measures in areas where railway tracks pass close to habitations, to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
