Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday participated in the Bhumi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony for the new building of Bapuji School, reiterating the Tripura government’s strong commitment to education reforms and active engagement with the Tripura diaspora.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Saha highlighted the success of the recently held Probashi Tripura Summit, which witnessed an overwhelming response from people originally from the state but now settled across the country and abroad. He said 85 participants attended the summit, surpassing the expected figure of 70, with all participants bearing their own expenses. “They are well established in their respective fields and keen to invest in Tripura. They are working in close coordination with industry leaders,” the Chief Minister said, adding that officials have been directed to maintain regular communication with them to ensure tangible outcomes.

Describing the participants as “sons of the soil,” Dr Saha said their emotional attachment to Tripura makes them a valuable asset for the state’s development. He further informed that around 300 to 400 more people have expressed interest in participating in the next edition of the summit, which is expected to significantly contribute to economic growth.

Speaking on education, the Chief Minister said he had visited several areas where people voluntarily donated land for schools, calling such acts a reflection of nationalistic spirit. He noted that Bapuji School was also established in the same spirit of public service.

Dr Saha stressed the importance of education for the younger generation, particularly those aged 18 to 35, a demographic that is shrinking globally. He emphasised the inclusion of moral science and deeper learning to help students develop strong values and social understanding.

Highlighting various education boards, including CBSE, ICSE, TBSE and open boards, he said the state has adopted CBSE-pattern education along with international boards and open schooling to ensure inclusive and holistic learning.

Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Dr Saha said the policy integrates India’s traditional wisdom with modern science and technology. He added that its focus on vocational training, multidisciplinary education, flexible learning paths and digital and AI-driven systems would help reduce dropout rates and better prepare students for the future.
