Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Tuesday held a courtesy meeting with Durga Das Uike, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, during the latter’s visit to the state. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Centre and the State to accelerate the overall development of tribal communities in Tripura.

Speaking after the interaction, Minister Debbarma said the discussions covered a wide range of issues related to social and economic empowerment of tribal populations, review of ongoing welfare schemes, and the need to introduce more inclusive and forward-looking initiatives. He emphasized that coordinated efforts between the Union and State governments are crucial for improving the living standards of tribal communities.

“We exchanged views on enhancing cooperation between the central and state governments. I believe this meeting and dialogue will play a positive role in shaping policy and practical decisions for tribal welfare in the days ahead,” Debbarma said.

The Tribal Welfare Minister also highlighted the importance of ensuring effective implementation of both central and state-sponsored welfare programs, so that benefits reach the grassroots level. Issues such as education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, and infrastructure development in tribal-dominated areas were among the key focus areas discussed during the meeting.

The interaction reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that tribal communities fully benefit from their constitutional rights and protective provisions, while also gaining greater access to development opportunities. Both leaders reportedly stressed the need for innovative strategies to address emerging challenges faced by indigenous communities, particularly in remote and rural areas.

Observers noted that the meeting reflects Tripura’s proactive approach in aligning state-level initiatives with national priorities for tribal welfare. With the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs implementing several flagship schemes across the country, closer coordination is expected to enhance the effectiveness of these programs in Tripura.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, reinforcing a shared vision of inclusive governance, sustainable development, and long-term empowerment of tribal communities in the state.
