Agartala:
In a major boost to rural infrastructure and tribal welfare, the Ministry of Rural Development has approved 25 new road projects for Tripura under the Road Connectivity component of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN). The sanctioned projects cover a combined length of 65.38 km and entail an estimated investment of ₹68.67 crore.

This landmark initiative is expected to significantly improve connectivity for 30 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations across the state. The creation of all-weather roads will not only ensure year-round accessibility but also play a critical role in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of PVTG communities, who often remain cut off from mainstream development due to geographical isolation.

According to officials, enhanced road connectivity will bridge longstanding infrastructure gaps between remote tribal villages and urban centres, facilitating smoother movement of people and goods. Improved access to markets, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and government services is expected to directly benefit the tribal population and enhance their quality of life.

The projects reflect the Central Government’s broader vision of strengthening the Northeast and building a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047. Better connectivity is anticipated to unlock new economic opportunities by boosting trade, encouraging local entrepreneurship, and generating employment during and after project implementation. Rural communities, especially those in remote tribal belts, will gain improved access to livelihood resources and public welfare schemes.

Officials further emphasized that the PM-JANMAN projects in Tripura will deliver long-term transformational outcomes. By integrating isolated regions with the state’s mainstream road network, the initiative aims to empower tribal households, promote inclusive development, and ensure that the benefits of growth reach the most marginalized communities.

With the Centre’s renewed focus on infrastructure-driven development, the sanctioned road projects are set to play a pivotal role in strengthening Tripura’s rural connectivity and accelerating progress across the tribal-dominated areas of the North-Eastern region.
