Jammu, Dec 6 — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday wrote to the Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), requesting the postponement of the JKAS examination scheduled for December 7 due to severe disruptions in air services and confusion surrounding age relaxation provisions.

In his letter, the Chief Minister highlighted that widespread air travel disturbances had created significant chaos, preventing many aspirants from reaching their examination centres on time. He noted that the situation was further aggravated by uncertainty over the government’s proposal on age relaxation for JKAS candidates—an enabling concession that has been extended multiple times in the past.

Omar Abdullah said the dual pressures of logistical hurdles and ambiguity regarding eligibility had placed “unprecedented mental and logistical stress” on thousands of candidates. Stressing the principles of fairness and equal opportunity, he urged the PSC to “take cognisance of the prevailing circumstances” and consider postponing the examination by a reasonable duration in the interest of all aspirants.

His appeal came shortly after the Lieutenant Governor clarified that the file related specifically to the conduct of the JKAS exam was not pending at the Lok Bhavan. The L-G explained that the document returned by his office on December 2 pertained to age relaxation and had been sent back with a query on the very day it was received.

Several political leaders also voiced concern over the confusion faced by aspirants. Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti appealed to both the L-G and the Chief Minister to address the growing anxiety among candidates unsure of their eligibility. National Conference Chief Spokesman and MLA Tanvir Sadiq stated that the age relaxation file had already been forwarded for approval, while CPI(M) leader M.Y. Tarigami expressed solidarity with the candidates awaiting clarity.

Meanwhile, the PSC has already issued admit cards and continues to prepare for the December 7 examination across Jammu and Kashmir.
