Bhavan’s Tripura Vidyamandir has taken a significant step toward promoting environmental sustainability by introducing edible water balls, Jadui Neer, as an innovative alternative to single-use plastic bottles. The initiative aims to reduce plastic waste on campus while teaching students the importance of eco-friendly solutions in everyday life.
The edible water balls are made using a biodegradable, fully edible membrane through a simple spherification process. These lightweight spheres securely hold water, offering a convenient and eco-conscious method of hydration. Designed to be practical and safe, they are particularly useful during outdoor activities, sports events, and school functions where disposable plastic bottles are commonly used. By replacing plastic with a natural, consumable alternative, the school encourages students to embrace sustainability from a young age.
As part of the launch, students participated in a hands-on demonstration of spherification. They observed how droplets of water transform into solid spheres when immersed in a natural gelling solution, learning how chemistry can be applied to create innovative, practical solutions. The exercise not only enhanced students’ understanding of scientific principles but also instilled a sense of responsibility toward the environment.
School authorities highlighted that the Jadui Neer initiative is more than a novelty; it is a step toward nurturing environmentally conscious behavior and fostering creativity in problem-solving. By integrating fun, educational experiments with real-world applications, the school aims to inspire students to think critically about pollution, resource conservation, and sustainable alternatives.
Students responded enthusiastically, expressing excitement about using edible water balls in future activities. The school hopes that this project will encourage eco-friendly practices both on campus and at home, promoting a culture of innovation, environmental stewardship, and responsible consumption.
