The Promotion of Cage Culture in Twisinta Lake (Sitacherra) Project was formally inaugurated at Hejamara Block by Rabindra Debbarma, Executive Member of the Education Department, TTAADC. Speaking at the launch, Debbarma stressed that lasting development in tribal areas depends on peace, harmony, and equitable access to government schemes. He said the initiative aims to strengthen eco-tourism while uplifting economically weaker sections through enhanced fisheries-based livelihoods.
Highlighting government support for fish farmers, Debbarma noted ongoing efforts such as pond excavation, distribution of quality fish seeds, and supply of fish feed. Under the new project at Twisinta Lake, 72 fish farmers have received cages along with 1,000 fish seeds and feed each. He urged the community to properly maintain the infrastructure to ensure long-term benefits.
The event saw the presence of key officials, including Hejamara BAC Vice Chairman Nihar Ranjan Debbarma, Fisheries Director Santosh Das, DFO West Tripura Akshay Balu Bhode, Mohanpur SDM Sajal Debnath, and Fisheries Supervisor Dipmala Roy. Implemented under the RIDP at a cost of ₹89.07 lakh, and supported by PMMSY with an additional ₹7.88 lakh, the project is expected to boost fish production, create jobs, and promote eco-tourism—marking a major step toward integrated rural development.
