Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu graced the World Diabetes Day programme organised by the Diabetes Welfare Society at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala on Saturday morning. The event, held to raise awareness about diabetes prevention, management, and early detection, saw the participation of doctors, health experts, patients’ groups, and members of civil society.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor commended the Diabetes Welfare Society for its sustained efforts in promoting public health awareness in Tripura. He emphasized that World Diabetes Day serves as a reminder of the growing burden of the disease in India and across the world. With lifestyle-related ailments on the rise, he stressed the need for timely diagnosis, healthy habits, and regular medical check-ups to reduce the risk of complications.
The Governor highlighted that diabetes is no longer an illness limited to specific age groups, as it increasingly affects both young and elderly populations. He urged citizens to adopt balanced diets, engage in physical activity, and follow medical advice strictly. Prevention, he noted, remains the most effective approach to combating diabetes.
Medical professionals at the event delivered informative sessions covering diabetes management, diet planning, foot care, insulin use, and the importance of routine screening. Free blood sugar testing facilities were also arranged for attendees, allowing many to assess their health status on the spot.
Representatives of the Diabetes Welfare Society spoke about the organization’s ongoing initiatives, including awareness campaigns, patient-support programmes, and workshops aimed at improving community understanding of the disease. They expressed gratitude to the Governor for his presence, which they said would inspire more people to participate in preventive healthcare activities.
The programme concluded with a renewed call for collective efforts—by the government, healthcare providers, and the public—to promote healthier lifestyles and curb the growing incidence of diabetes in the state.
