Dhaka, Oct 17, 2025:
At least 10 people were injured on Friday afternoon in Dhaka when violent clashes broke out between law enforcement personnel and a group of protesters calling themselves the “July Warriors” near the Parliament premises, just hours before the scheduled July Charter Signing ceremony, local media reported.

According to Inspector Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, all the injured are currently receiving treatment at DMCH.

Eyewitnesses said the protesters had gathered on Manik Mia Avenue to oppose the signing of the July Charter. “Police suddenly began hitting us to clear the area. We were beaten indiscriminately, and several of us were injured,” a protester named Gazi told The Daily Star.

The demonstrators—comprising those injured during the July Uprising and families of the deceased—had staged a sit-in outside Parliament, refusing to leave until their three core demands were fulfilled:

  1. Official state recognition for participants of the uprising,

  2. Legal protection, and

  3. Rehabilitation for affected families.

Reports indicate that when the crowd attempted to march toward the Parliament gate, police and military personnel intervened, triggering chaos. The authorities used batons and fired three sound grenades to disperse the protesters. In retaliation, the demonstrators vandalised police vehicles—including a car and a bus—and set fire to temporary reception structures and furniture outside the venue prepared for the signing event.

The “July Warriors” issued a stern warning to the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, saying, “If we have to spill our blood again, the second administration will not survive either.”

Bangladesh remains volatile following the toppling of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government last year amid widespread unrest and violent protests.
