Agartala, Oct 17, 2025:
In a moment of pride for Tripura, North Tripura district has been recognized as the Best Performing District in the country under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM Janman Mission). The honour was conferred by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, for the district’s outstanding implementation of welfare initiatives for tribal communities.

At a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious award to District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, acknowledging the district’s remarkable achievements in inclusive development and social empowerment.

Speaking after receiving the award, DM Chandni Chandran dedicated the recognition to the collective efforts of the Tripura government’s Tribal Welfare Department, the District Social Welfare Officer, Block Development Officers, and all officials who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the PM Janman Mission in the district.

She expressed gratitude to every officer and staff member involved in the district’s development journey and extended special thanks to the self-help group members of Damcherra, who presented her with a beautifully handcrafted Bru “Rignai” set as a token of appreciation.

“It was a matter of immense pride to represent Tripura’s vibrant tribal culture on the national stage by wearing our traditional attire,” Chandran said with emotion.

The recognition marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s progress toward sustainable tribal welfare and empowerment. It also positions North Tripura as a model district for effective grassroots implementation of central government schemes aimed at uplifting marginalized communities.
