Guwahati/Agartala, Oct 5 — In a significant political development, Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma has called for greater regional unity in the Northeast, following his participation in the swearing-in ceremony of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary, who took oath as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam’s Kokrajhar on Sunday.

Debbarma, who had also campaigned in support of the BPF during the BTC elections, described the occasion as a moment of “regional solidarity.” The BPF secured 28 seats in the 40-member council, while the BJP and its ally United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) won five and seven seats, respectively — ending the UPPL’s rule in the BTC.

Posting on social media, Debbarma wrote, “Met Hagrama Mohilary at the swearing-in ceremony at Kokrajhar. I am glad we campaigned together despite many being opposed to seeing us together. Regional unity and voice is a must.”

A TMP post celebrating the meeting described it as “Two Tigers in One Frame.”

While Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently claimed that the BPF remains part of the NDA, Mohilary clarified that his party would not align with the coalition unless the UPPL was dropped from it.

In Tripura, ties between the BJP and TMP, though allied, remain tense amid reports of clashes between workers and growing rivalry ahead of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

The TMP continues to push for the implementation of the tripartite accord, deportation of illegal migrants, and the long-standing demand for a Greater Tipraland, while also preparing for its statewide shutdown on October 13 to press for indigenous rights.
