Agartala, Sep 14 — Mayor Dipak Majumder on Sunday distributed smart PVC ration cards among beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS) under Ration Shop No. 61, managed by dealer Amit Kumar Ghosh. The initiative aims to enhance efficiency, durability, and transparency in ration distribution.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Majumder highlighted the state government’s commitment to making governance more people-centric since the formation of the BJP government in Tripura.
“After our government came to power, the situation in the state has improved significantly. Governance is now more transparent and public-oriented. Initially, people were unsure about our intent, but over time they have experienced the benefits of these transparent and citizen-friendly schemes,” he said.
The Mayor also underlined the advantages of introducing smart PVC cards for ration beneficiaries. Unlike traditional paper-based ration cards, these PVC cards are more durable, easy to use, and convenient for citizens. He stressed that such measures reflect the government’s efforts to integrate technology into welfare systems to ensure seamless service delivery.
Officials present at the programme informed that the distribution of PVC cards is part of a larger initiative to modernize the Public Distribution System across the state. By upgrading to smart cards, the government intends to reduce errors, curb malpractices, and ensure that benefits reach the rightful recipients without delay.
The Mayor urged beneficiaries to cooperate with authorities and make full use of the new system for their convenience. He reiterated that the state government remains committed to introducing reforms that strengthen transparency and improve the lives of citizens, particularly those belonging to economically weaker sections.
The event concluded with the symbolic distribution of cards to several beneficiaries, marking another step towards modern, efficient, and accountable governance in Tripura.
