Imphal, Sep 11 (IANS): Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s likely visit to Manipur on September 13, security preparedness has been intensified across the state, with a top Army officer reviewing the situation in several districts, including sensitive border areas along Myanmar.

Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, undertook a comprehensive review in Churachandpur district as part of his wider assessment of Manipur’s security landscape. His visit also covered Imphal, Bishnupur, and forward areas on the Indo-Myanmar border, underscoring the Corps’ commitment to operational readiness and inter-agency coordination.

During the tour, Lt Gen Pendharkar interacted with personnel from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, and Manipur Police, commending their professionalism and high morale under challenging circumstances. He also engaged with 61 individuals, including Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris, and serving personnel, acknowledging their contributions and presenting tokens of appreciation. Veterans expressed gratitude for the recognition of their service and sacrifices.

The Army’s outreach emphasized a holistic and inclusive approach to security management, reinforcing the enduring bond between the armed forces and local communities.

Meanwhile, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recently held meetings with MLAs from both Kuki-Zo and Imphal Valley communities, along with senior officials including Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, to review arrangements for the possible VVIP visit.

Though the Prime Minister’s Office has not officially confirmed the visit, reports suggest that Modi will travel to Aizawl to inaugurate the Bairabi-Sairang railway project before visiting Imphal and Churachandpur.

Security measures have been tightened, with restrictions imposed in both districts. The Churachandpur administration has declared the district a ‘No Drone Zone’, prohibiting the use of UAVs, drones, and balloons ahead of the Prime Minister’s expected arrival.
