Agartala: August 13: Responding to the request of West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the Central Government has approved additional funds to expedite the completion of the Light House Project located near the Akhaura border. According to Deb, work on the remaining construction is expected to resume shortly.

The decision follows Deb’s meeting with Union Minister for Housing, Urban Affairs, and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, in New Delhi on July 24. During the discussion, Deb raised concerns over the prolonged delay, outlining the primary hurdles that had halted progress. He urged the Centre to take immediate measures to ensure timely completion.

The Light House Project in Tripura was initiated during Deb’s tenure as Chief Minister and holds the distinction of being the first of its kind in the Northeast, among six similar projects launched across India under the Global Housing Technology Challenge. The initiative aims to provide modern, sustainable housing for 1,000 families, using advanced construction techniques for faster delivery and higher quality.

Initially, the project moved forward with momentum; however, it later slowed due to land acquisition issues and other related challenges, making it impossible to meet the original deadline. These setbacks left hundreds of intended beneficiaries waiting for their promised homes.

In a social media post, Deb expressed satisfaction over the Centre’s prompt response to his appeal, noting that the fresh allocation of funds will pave the way for swift and uninterrupted progress.

With the renewed push, authorities are optimistic about completing the project in an accelerated timeframe, bringing a long-awaited housing solution to many families and marking a significant step forward in Tripura’s urban development initiatives.
