Chandigarh, July 11 — The Cyber Cell of Chandigarh Police has registered a case against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the alleged circulation of a doctored video targeting Punjab Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa. The FIR, filed on Friday, follows Bajwa’s complaint accusing AAP leaders of manipulating a video to defame him.
The FIR, lodged at Sector 3 Police Station, names unknown individuals and includes charges of forgery, defamation, and criminal conspiracy. Bajwa had earlier filed a complaint on July 7, alleging that senior AAP leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, and AAP Punjab chief Aman Arora, were behind the circulation of an edited video on social media.
The original clip, posted by Bajwa on June 25 on his official ‘X’ handle, criticized the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for its alleged misconduct during a raid at the home of MLA Ganieve Kaur, the wife of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia. According to Bajwa, the video was edited to remove references to Kaur and falsely portray him as defending Majithia, who is facing money laundering charges involving Rs 540 crore in alleged drug money.
Bajwa claimed the manipulated video was widely shared by AAP leaders to mislead the public and damage his image. He specifically named Harpal Cheema for posting the clip on Facebook, and held Aman Arora responsible for sharing it through the AAP Punjab official page.
Reacting to the FIR, Harpal Cheema dismissed the allegations and called the case politically motivated. “This FIR proves Bajwa’s closeness with the BJP,” Cheema alleged, asserting that AAP is not afraid of legal action.
The police investigation is ongoing.
