Agartala, July 7: A delegation of Congress leaders, led by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha, met with Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag at the Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday. The meeting focused on the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and recent incidents involving opposition leaders.

The Congress delegation expressed deep concern over the lack of progress in the investigation into the mysterious death of Ashish Das, a BJP worker from Surma in Dhalai district. Das, who had joined the BJP two years ago following the suspicious death of his younger brother Asim Das, was reported missing on June 17. His mutilated body was discovered five days later near a brick kiln allegedly owned by one Souvik Das.

Saha demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a senior IPS officer to ensure a fair and transparent probe. He criticized the delay in making arrests and the police’s failure to interrogate Paritosh Pal, husband of BJP MLA Swapna Das Pal, who was named as the primary suspect by the victim’s mother. Pal had allegedly threatened Ashish Das and was previously accused in Asim Das’s death.

Saha condemned the silence of BJP leaders and alleged that political influence and land mafia interests may be obstructing justice. He had earlier communicated these concerns to DGP Amitabh Ranjan in a formal letter.

The TPCC president also raised the issue of recent disruptions to Congress MLA Gopal Roy’s public program in Banamalipur, blaming individuals linked to the ruling party for the obstruction and intimidation.

Saha accused the police of political bias and failing in their constitutional duty. “Law and order in Tripura is collapsing, and opposition voices are being systematically silenced,” he said, urging immediate corrective action.
