Agartala, June 27: Tripura has witnessed a remarkable decline in its unemployment rate, falling from 10% in 2018-19 to just 1.7% in the 2023-24 financial year, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Friday.
Addressing a gathering at Muktadhara auditorium during a ceremony to distribute 222 appointment letters in the Education and Health departments, Dr. Saha said the drop in unemployment reflects the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise of employment generation.
He congratulated the new recruits and encouraged them to serve the people with sincerity and dedication. The Chief Minister also stated that the government is actively working to fill vacant posts across departments and is setting up special coaching centres for students in every sub-division to further support youth employment.
Since the BJP government came to power in 2018, more than 19,484 individuals have secured government jobs, including those appointed under the die-in-harness policy, he added.
As the state’s Education Minister, Dr. Saha highlighted several reforms taken to improve the education system. These include the implementation of the National Education Policy, adoption of the NCERT curriculum, and the launch of the ‘Super 30’ initiative aimed at supporting academically talented students.
The event was attended by key officials including Special Secretary (Education) Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director of Secondary and Elementary Education N.C. Sharma, Director in-charge of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, and Additional Health Secretary Rajib Datta.
Dr. Saha reiterated the government’s focus on education, healthcare, and skill development to ensure sustained employment growth and better opportunities for the youth of Tripura.
