Agartala, June 18 — Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha launched the second phase of the nationwide tree plantation campaign, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, marking a major step toward environmental conservation and emotional connection across the state. The state-level launch took place at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Agartala, where the Chief Minister, alongside senior officials, students, teachers, and parents, planted saplings to inaugurate the drive.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ encourages citizens to plant a tree in honour of their mothers. The initiative blends environmental consciousness with a heartfelt tribute, aiming to build a greener future while nurturing the bond of gratitude towards motherhood.

CM Saha highlighted the dual purpose of the campaign — ecological preservation and emotional enrichment. “This simple act honours our mothers and ensures a healthier planet for future generations. Just like our mothers, trees give life — providing oxygen, shade, nourishment, and shelter,” he said.

He further emphasized the scientific importance of the drive, noting that plants are the only natural source of oxygen, making afforestation crucial for human survival. The involvement of students and their families, he added, creates a lasting sense of environmental responsibility.

The campaign will engage over 4,000 schools across Tripura, with a new plantation target of 1.36 lakh trees. Last year, 1.426 lakh trees were planted under the same initiative.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister lauded the enthusiastic participation of schools and families, urging all citizens to take part in the movement for a sustainable future.

Senior education officials, including Special Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar and Director N.C. Sharma, also attended the event, reaffirming the state’s commitment to eco-conscious development.
