Agartala: May 09: In a major security-related development, five Myanmar nationals were detained on Monday from Lalchari area under Ambassa Police Station in Tripura’s Dhalai district for allegedly entering India illegally and residing without valid documents.

According to police sources, the individuals had been living in a rented house in the locality for the past week, prompting suspicion among residents. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Uttam Kumar Das raided the house and questioned the occupants. Initially, the group claimed to be visiting friends, and one individual even presented an Aadhaar card, which was later confirmed to be fake.

Upon further investigation, all five were taken to the police station for interrogation. Three passports were recovered from the residence, but none carried valid Indian visas. Two of the detainees had no passports at all. During questioning, the individuals revealed they had entered India through the Mizoram border, reportedly for medical treatment. They also named a person from Mogpara under Kumarghat sub-division—currently residing in Hyderabad—who allegedly assisted in their illegal entry.

Communication posed a challenge during interrogation, as the detainees could converse only in English or their native language. However, police stated that new details continue to emerge, deepening suspicions about the group’s purpose in India.

The detainees have been identified as Roger Khaini (33), Anug Naing Tang (40), Tang Wing (60), Pe Tai Jen (09), and Sundar Wing (23). Among them, one is a minor, and two—Tang Wing and Sundar Wing—were found without passports.

The case has now been taken up by both state and central intelligence agencies, who are conducting further inquiries. The five detainees are scheduled to be produced before the District and Sessions Court of Dhalai on Tuesday.
