The AIIMS team commenced a three-day assessment visit to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital. The primary objective is to evaluate the current infrastructure and propose a comprehensive strategy to upgrade healthcare delivery and medical education in the state.

Following a high-level meeting with the AIIMS delegation, AGMC, and GBP authorities, Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte emphasized the state government’s commitment to transforming Tripura into a regional healthcare hub. “This visit marks a focused initiative to meet the evolving health demands of the people,” Gitte said.

The team is reviewing key areas such as manpower requirements, undergraduate and postgraduate medical seat capacities, departmental upgrades, diagnostics, hospital management, and the development of super-specialty services. A detailed roadmap for systemic improvement will be formulated based on their findings.

Gitte also confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tripura government and AIIMS is in progress. Implementation of the recommendations is expected within a year.

Prior to hospital inspections, the AIIMS team met with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to align goals and expectations. The experts will also engage directly with doctors and patients to gather ground-level insights and ensure their suggestions are rooted in local realities.

The initiative reflects the state’s strategic focus on strengthening public health infrastructure, with AGMC and GBP Hospital playing pivotal roles in Tripura’s medical progress over the past two decades.
