Agartala: May 31: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has accused the central government and BJP-led state administrations of deporting Bengali-speaking Muslims to Bangladesh without proper verification. In a statement issued on Saturday, the party condemned the alleged forced expulsions, calling for a fair and constitutionally compliant process in handling suspected illegal immigrants.

According to the CPM, the deportations intensified following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, with Bengali-speaking Muslims being particularly targeted. The party claims that many individuals have been sent to Bangladesh without verification, raising concerns about wrongful deportations.

The statement also cited reports suggesting that some Indian citizens, originally residents of India, have been mistakenly deported. It highlighted cases where individuals were declared “foreigners” by tribunals despite their appeals being under review in the Assam High Court and Supreme Court. The CPM described such actions as unacceptable.

Additionally, the party criticized the BJP-led Assam government for allegedly implementing communal policies, including the decision to arm tribal groups. The CPM warned that such measures could have serious consequences.

While acknowledging the importance of maintaining law and order and preventing illegal immigration, the party argued that identifying immigrants based on religion and arming specific groups could lead to further instability. The CPM urged the government to ensure a humane and regulated approach in dealing with undocumented immigrants who have no criminal intent.
