Agartala, May 31: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday visited the Jampui Hills in North Tripura and chaired a high-level meeting following a recent attack on an under-construction tourism facility at Phuldungsei, a village near the Tripura-Mizoram border.
Unidentified miscreants had reportedly hurled low-intensity explosives at the site, causing significant damage to the infrastructure. The Tourism Department is developing a small accommodation complex and a watch tower at the site, aimed at boosting tourism in the scenic border region.
The location of the attack is in a zone that has long been claimed by both Tripura and Mizoram, adding a sensitive inter-state dimension to the incident.
The review meeting, held at the Eden Tourist Lodge in Jampui Hills, was attended by top officials including the Secretary of Tourism, District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of North Tripura, as well as local MLAs and elected representatives.
Speaking to Tripura Times, Minister Chowdhury said, “The local population has clearly voiced that developmental activities must not be hindered under any circumstances. We have instructed the District Forest Officer, who is the custodian of the project funds, to take immediate steps to resume construction.”
He added that the temporary halt in construction was due to objections raised by Mizoram authorities. However, the Tripura government is firm on resuming the work shortly.
“The total budget sanctioned for the Phuldungsei project is Rs 3.12 crore,” the Minister confirmed.
The state government is taking the incident seriously and ensuring that security and administrative coordination is strengthened to avoid further disruptions in developmental initiatives in the region.
