Agartala: May 26: The southwest monsoon officially arrived in Tripura today, nearly 10 days ahead of its usual schedule, according to a statement issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The early onset of monsoon has brought moderate rainfall to several parts of the state over the past 24 hours.

As per the IMD, the southwest monsoon has made its formal entry into Tripura, marking a significant advancement compared to the normal monsoon timeline. Typically, the monsoon reaches Tripura in early June, but this year it has arrived much earlier, enhancing hopes for a favorable agricultural season.

In a press release, the IMD stated, “The southwest monsoon has advanced into the entire state of Tripura today. This is about 10 days ahead of the normal onset date.” Last year, the monsoon arrived in Tripura around May 30, but this year’s early onset has been attributed to favorable meteorological conditions over the Bay of Bengal and the northeastern region.

Due to the arrival of the monsoon, various parts of Tripura recorded moderate rainfall during the last 24 hours. While the rainfall has brought relief from the recent heat and humidity, it has also raised expectations among farmers who rely heavily on timely rains for cultivation.

Meteorologists have indicated that this early monsoon may result in an extended rainy season, potentially benefiting agriculture but also increasing the risk of localized flooding if the rain continues at a steady pace. The IMD will continue to monitor the monsoon’s progress and provide regular updates.

Overall, the early arrival of the monsoon is being seen as a positive development, especially for the farming community, though authorities remain alert to address any weather-related challenges in the coming days.
