Agartala: May 25: A high-level meeting was convened today in Unakoti district to discuss law and order and strategies to combat drug abuse. The meeting took place at the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kailashahar, the district headquarters, and was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.

Senior officials, including DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath, Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai—who oversees North Tripura and Unakoti districts—sub-divisional police officers, officers-in-charge of various police stations, and representatives from other security agencies, participated in the discussion.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, DGP Anurag Dhankar emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining law and order. He stated, “Ensuring security is not solely the responsibility of the police; the support of ordinary citizens plays a crucial role in this effort.” He urged residents to actively assist law enforcement in fostering a safer environment.

The meeting also focused on advancing the Chief Minister’s vision of a “Drug-Free Tripura.” The DGP highlighted ongoing efforts, noting that the state has achieved a conviction rate of over 30% in drug-related cases, which he described as a positive development.

Following his visit to Unakoti, DGP Dhankar announced plans to travel to Dharmanagar in North Tripura and later visit the 13th TSR Battalion in Kanchanpur to engage with security personnel.

The visit has sparked discussions within administrative circles, with speculation that the state police administration may introduce new measures to intensify efforts against drug abuse. The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement and addressing key security concerns in the region.
