Agartala, May 20: A content creator identified as Sanu Malakar was reportedly roughed up in public on Sunday at the Tripura Sundari temple premises in Udaipur over his choice of background song during a performance. The incident triggered widespread outrage on social media after videos of the altercation went viral.
According to reports, Malakar was performing to a Hindi song which allegedly referenced the supreme deity of another religion. A member of the crowd, later identified as Tushar Kanti Shil, objected to the song, leading to a heated exchange. Eyewitnesses offered differing accounts—some claimed Malakar was physically assaulted, while others said it was just a verbal confrontation.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, where netizens condemned the behavior of Tushar Kanti Shil and demanded accountability. At the same time, many came forward in support of Malakar after learning the reason behind his public performances.
It was revealed that Sanu Malakar performs in public not for fame or personal gain, but to raise funds for the destitute. On Sunday, he was reportedly collecting donations for an elderly woman in need who was seated nearby during his performance.
As the public outcry grew, BJP MLA and BJP Yuva Morcha President Sushanta Deb intervened in support of the content creator. Speaking to Malakar, Deb said, “You are doing commendable work for society. Don’t let such incidents discourage you. I stand by your side—keep helping people.”
The incident has ignited important conversations on freedom of expression, religious sensitivity, and public decency in religious spaces.
