Agartala: May 18: In a significant development, Teliamura Police, in a joint operation with Assam’s Bazarichara Police, arrested local businessman and club secretary Prasenjit Roy on Sunday morning from the Santinagar area of Teliamura. Roy, widely known in the region as a fertilizer trader and secretary of the Saptasindhu Dash Diganta Club, was taken into custody in connection with a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Roy’s arrest has stirred considerable public interest, as he was long suspected of being involved in illicit activities, though concrete evidence had eluded law enforcement until now. Local sources claim that rumors of his links to the drug trade had circulated for years, but due to his growing influence and lack of proof, the allegations remained unspoken within the community.
The arrest has reignited questions about Roy’s meteoric rise in wealth and status. Once an ordinary fertilizer trader and resident of D.M. Colony under the Krishnapur constituency, Roy’s transformation into a wealthy figure with substantial real estate holdings has raised eyebrows. He is said to have purchased large plots of land in the Santinagar area on the outskirts of Teliamura town, where he constructed a lavish multi-storey mansion resembling a royal palace.
Residents are now openly questioning the source of Roy’s wealth, speculating whether it was fuelled by illegal activities. His sudden affluence and elevated social standing through the club network had long been a topic of quiet conversation, but his arrest has brought those concerns into the open.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days as police probe deeper into Roy’s assets and connections. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over hidden criminal networks in seemingly ordinary neighborhoods.
