Agartala: April 28: Tensions escalated in the Belonia Ballamukha area as Tipra Motha workers and supporters staged demonstrations today. They were protesting Bangladesh’s construction of a dam at the border, which is alleged to be in violation of the International Boundary Delimitation Act.
The situation intensified at Bankar Uttar Para, where demonstrators gathered in large numbers. Police and senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) quickly arrived at the scene following reports of unrest. When the protestors attempted to move towards the Ballamukha border, clashes occurred with security personnel.
Tipra Motha has raised demands for the resignation of Yunus, who leads the caretaker government in Bangladesh. The party’s former leader, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, claimed on social media that BSF personnel blocked thousands of Tipra Motha workers in Bilonia, preventing them from halting the dam’s construction. Debbarma issued a stern warning, suggesting Tiprasa youth were prepared to act decisively if given the go-ahead.
The events have sparked concern over border management and adherence to international laws in the region.
