Agartala: Mar 19: A group of small traders raised concerns regarding the allocation of plots at the Chaitra Fair, expressing dissatisfaction with the system implemented by the municipal corporation. Traders alleged that discrepancies in the process had adversely impacted them. In response, a group of traders gathered outside the municipal corporation to voice their grievances.

Mayor Deepak Majumdar addressed the traders, acknowledging their concerns and assuring them of a resolution. He emphasized that the allocation of approximately 300 shop plots at the fair would be carried out as per the municipal corporation’s official list. The Mayor also urged traders to avoid relying on middlemen or engaging in any practices to secure preferred plots through monetary exchanges.

The annual Chaitra Fair, held in the Shakuntala Road area, provides small traders an opportunity to conduct their businesses. The distribution of forms for shop plots began today, with 475 forms already distributed. Reports indicate that some traders had been waiting outside the municipal corporation office since the previous night to secure their spots.

Mayor Majumdar highlighted the municipal corporation’s commitment to supporting small traders by offering free business opportunities during the fair, scheduled from April 1 to April 14. He expressed hope for the event’s success, fostering a positive relationship between buyers and sellers while upholding the fair’s long-standing traditions.
