Agartala: Mar 13: The recently concluded Saras Mela in Sepahijala district has sparked controversy over the allocation of food stalls and the event’s overall turnout. The three-day district-level fair, organized from March 11 to March 13 at the Bishramganj Mini Stadium, reportedly incurred significant expenses, yet faced challenges in attracting public participation.

The fair was organized with the aim of promoting self-reliant women under the theme “Come, sisters, let’s make a self-reliant Tripura.” However, several self-reliant women expressed dissatisfaction with the allocation of food stalls. According to some of them, the stalls were initially meant to showcase and sell goods prepared by self-reliant women but were instead allocated to local businessmen, contrary to the event’s stated purpose.

In addition to these concerns, allegations have been raised that the organizers did not effectively spread awareness about the event among the district residents, resulting in low public turnout. Despite the extensive decorations and funds spent on the event, it seemingly fell short of its intended impact.
