Agartala: Feb 16: Two months ago, a tragic incident occurred in Melaghar, when Minal Kanti Barman, a resident of Masterpara, set his wife, Haimanti Sinha Barman, on fire. The horrifying act took place in front of their minor daughter and son, who witnessed the brutal incident. Haimanti was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries, leaving behind her two young children. Following the tragedy, Haimanti’s family filed a case at the Melaghar police station, prompting the arrest of two individuals. However, the main accused, Minal Kanti Barman, remains at large.

Despite numerous efforts, including a plea to the Human Rights Commission by Haimanti’s family demanding the arrest of Minal Kanti Barman, the state administration has yet to apprehend him. The lack of action has led to growing frustration among the victim’s family members.

In response to the inaction, about two months after the incident, Haimanti’s minor children and relatives organized a silent procession to demand justice. The procession began from Minal Kanti Barman’s residence in Melaghar Masterpara, circled the Melaghar market, and ended in front of the Melaghar police station. There, the family filed a written complaint, urging the authorities to take immediate action to arrest the accused and bring him to justice.

The Melaghar police station has stated that they are actively working on locating Minal Kanti Barman but are facing difficulties due to his mobile number being switched off. Reports suggest that he may be in Chennai, complicating efforts to track him down. Nonetheless, the police have assured that they are committed to apprehending him as soon as possible and bringing him to face the consequences of his actions. The family remains hopeful for justice and the safety of their children.
