Agartala: Jan 25: In a significant operation ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, two arms dealers were detained by the police in North Tripura district. The suspects were found in possession of a factory-made pistol and ammunition, raising concerns over potential security threats in the region.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Neeraj Kumar and Indal Mukhiya, both from Samastipur, Bihar. They had arrived in Dharmanagar by train and were staying at a private hotel when they were apprehended. North Tripura Superintendent of Police, Avinash Rai, confirmed the arrests and highlighted the seriousness of the operation.
The police acted on specific intelligence and launched a raid early on Saturday morning, led by the Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). During the raid, the team recovered the pistol and ammunition from the suspects’ possession. Following the operation, a case was filed under the Arms Act at the Dharmanagar police station, and further investigations have begun to uncover the suspects’ motives and whether they are linked to a larger criminal network.
The arrest of the two arms dealers has prompted heightened security measures in the area, especially with Republic Day celebrations just around the corner. Authorities are continuing their interrogation to determine if the suspects were involved in a broader illegal arms trade or had any connections to criminal groups operating in the region.
