Agartala: Jan 18:  Legislators Birjit Sinha and Sudhanshu Das raised concerns in the state assembly on January 15, alleging that Bangladesh was constructing a high embankment near the India-Bangladesh international border in the Devipur area of Rangauti Gram Panchayat, Kailashahar. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, an administrative team led by the district magistrate of Unokoti district inspected the border area on January 17 and found the allegations to be incorrect. They confirmed that Bangladesh was not constructing any embankment there.

DIG Rajeev Bhatsaraj of the BSF’s Panisagar sector refuted the claim, stating that it was not a dam. In a press conference held at the BSF BOP in Tila Bazar, Kailashahar, on Saturday evening, he clarified that Bangladesh was constructing a road, not a dam, near the India-Bangladesh international border in the Devipur area. The road was intended to connect Alinagar and Sharifpur, two villages under Kulaura thana of Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh, and the BSF had observed this construction for some time.

However, the DIG acknowledged that Bangladesh had made a minor mistake while constructing the road, as it was built right next to Pillar No. 1849 of the India-Bangladesh international border in the Devipur area. He noted that only a small portion of the road was constructed near the pillar. Upon noticing this on November 2, the BSF immediately halted the work, and no further construction was carried out. Additionally, he mentioned that there was already an existing road in the area, which had become unusable due to lack of repair. The Bangladesh government was reconstructing this road, and it was not a dam. The Manu river is located 750 meters away from the road.
