Agartala: Dec 24: Dharmanagar police have recovered 200 grams of heroin. Acting on a tip-off on Tuesday afternoon, police managed to arrest a smuggler along with eighteen packets of heroin.
While narcotics are being recovered from various parts of the state, there have been no such seizures in the North district. However, it is known that the North district is a corridor for the entry of narcotics. In this regard, many incidents of the North district police’s inaction have come to the fore, allowing smuggling to continue. On Tuesday, Dharmanagar police arrested a heroin smuggler in the Krishnapur area.
Dharmanagar police station officer-in-charge Sitikanta Bardhan said that acting on a tip-off, police launched a search operation in the Krishnapur area and arrested a suspicious youth. The youth had a market bag with him. Upon searching the bag, eighteen packets of heroin were recovered hidden in eighteen soap boxes.
He further stated that the recovered heroin weighed approximately 200 grams. The arrested youth, named Imam Uddin, resides in Ward No. 6 of Raua Gram Panchayat under Panisagar police station. A case has been registered against him at the police station under the NDPS Act, and an investigation has been started. The police are investigating the matter to find out the destination of this heroin and are also trying to identify others involved in the smuggling.
