Agartala: Dec 09: Recently, a peace accord was signed among the state, central government, and insurgent groups. Subsequently, many insurgents surrendered and returned to normal life. However, some insurgents, despite returning to normal life, have continued their anti-social activities. This is evident from the arrest of a former member of the NLFT insurgent group with sharp weapons and a country-made gun.

According to the details of the incident, Shankar Debbarma, a resident of Balaram Thakurpara in Champaknagar, is a former member of the NLFT insurgent group. Even though he returned to normal life, he continued his anti-social activities. On Sunday afternoon, he was arrested by the Jirania police with sharp weapons and a country-made gun.

It is learned that on Sunday afternoon, Shankar Debbarma attacked Sushil Debbarma, a resident of the village, with the intent to kill. Sushil Debbarma was seriously injured in the attack with sharp weapons. Thanks to the villagers’ quick action, Sushil Debbarma survived.

According to the complaint, Shankar Debbarma went to collect money from the workers involved in the repair of an old bridge in the village. Sushil Debbarma objected to this, and then Shankar Debbarma attacked him with a sharp weapon. Sushil Debbarma was seriously injured. The injured Sushil Debbarma was first taken to Champaknagar Hospital and then to GB Hospital in Agartala. Following this incident, Sushil Debbarma filed a complaint at the Champaknagar outpost on Sunday night.

Upon receiving the complaint, the Jirania police arrested Shankar Debbarma from his residence in Balaram Thakurpara. A search of his house yielded a sharp sword and a country-made gun. The OC of Jirania police station, while speaking to the media, informed about the entire incident. He also mentioned that a case has been registered against the arrested Shankar Debbarma under the Arms Act. It is reported that the arrested Shankar Debbarma has been carrying out such anti-social activities in the area for a long time. However, there are rumors among the villagers that Shankar Debbarma has three to four more guns and various sharp weapons, which the police have not yet recovered. Meanwhile, on Monday, the Jirania police produced the arrested Shankar Debbarma in court seeking police remand.
