Agartala: Nov 15: On Thursday, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia visited Tripura for a state tour. On Friday, he participated in the state-level “Janjati Gaurav Divas” celebrations. Following this, he held a review meeting at the Secretariat with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, cabinet ministers, and officials from various departments to discuss the state’s development projects. During the conference, Scindia highlighted that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) had prepared a roadmap for Tripura’s development. He emphasized that the development of the North East region has been a key focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Over the past decade, the region has witnessed unprecedented growth, with both the central and state governments working in unison. He mentioned that the central budget now allocates more funds for the North Eastern states than before. The transportation infrastructure in the region has greatly improved, citing that states like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, which previously lacked airports, now have them.
Scindia also stated that Tripura’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has reached approximately ₹90,000 crore, and the per capita income has increased to about ₹1.6 lakh. Additionally, Tripura has become a leader in literacy rates in the country. From 2004 to 2014, under the Congress government, Tripura received ₹8,900 crore from the central government. However, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Tripura has received ₹47,160 crore in the last 10 years. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, the state is set to receive ₹8,830 crore, and the total grant-in-aid from the center from 2014 to 2024 has been ₹62,000 crore.
Scindia concluded by stating that, as a Union Minister, working on Tripura’s development is both his constitutional responsibility and a personal commitment, given his familial ties to the state. He assured that he would continue working for the state’s progress. The press conference was also attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and MP Rajeev Bhattacharya.
