Agartala: Nov 10: Tipra Motha has decided to intensify its campaign for the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, with party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma announcing a fresh round of protests. Speaking at a press conference in Agartala on Sunday, Debbarma outlined the party’s plan to submit a peaceful deputation to the Governor across the state on November 14. Tipra Motha’s block-level workers will deliver these deputations through Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) or District Magistrates (DMs).

Debbarma reiterated that the party has been fighting for the rights of indigenous communities for a long time and will continue to press for the implementation of the 125th Amendment, which seeks to empower tribal communities. He emphasized that the state government, particularly the Chief Minister, does not have the authority to implement the bill, and that only the Parliament can pass it. Despite widespread political support for the bill, Debbarma expressed frustration over its delay in passing, questioning why it has not yet been enacted despite consensus from all political parties.

He further asserted that Tipra Motha is not backing down from its demands, stating that while 90% of the party’s demands were met by the central government, the remaining 10% must still be fulfilled. The party also intends to remind the central government of its commitments made in the recent agreements. Debbarma clarified that the movement is not an ethnic struggle but a fight for the development and rights of indigenous communities, and that these demands must be addressed by the government.

Regarding the upcoming Village Council elections, Debbarma said no final decision has been made about an alliance with the BJP. He emphasized that Tipra Motha continues to demand the creation of Greater Tipraland, the reservation of 26 out of 60 seats in the state assembly for indigenous communities, and other critical issues. TTADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma was also present at the press conference.
