Agartala: Nov 08: The state of education in Tripura is in a crisis, with severe teacher shortages, crumbling infrastructure, and a lack of focus from the ruling BJP government. The Congress party has raised concerns over the government’s indifference to the education system, highlighting the increasing dropout rates and the growing number of out-of-school children. Despite thousands of B.Ed. and D.L.Ed. graduates in the state, the BJP government has failed to conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for over two and a half years, leaving many qualified candidates without job opportunities.

The Vidyajyoti scheme, introduced by the government, was intended to improve the education system, but instead, it has led to further deterioration. The scheme, along with the introduction of the CBSE curriculum, was implemented without addressing the core issue of insufficient teaching infrastructure. As a result, the quality of education has stagnated, and the number of students enrolling in government schools has plummeted. Schools, particularly in rural areas and hill regions, are in dire condition, with many students unable to attend due to the shortage of teachers.

In the past few years, the state government has abolished over 5,000 teaching posts, citing a decrease in student numbers, but this has only worsened the situation. As of now, there are around 8,527 vacancies for various teaching posts, yet the government has failed to make any efforts to recruit new teachers.

The Congress party condemns the BJP government’s neglect of education and vows to hold them accountable for the destruction of the state’s education system. The lack of action on teacher recruitment and the failure to address the dire situation in schools is a major issue, and the Congress party plans to take strong action to demand change and restore quality education for the children of Tripura.
