Congress Launches Indira Fellowship Programme to Empower Women in Politics

Agartala, Oct 14: The Congress party has introduced the Indira Fellowship Programme, aimed at increasing women’s participation in the political arena. This announcement was made by PCC President Ashish Kumar Saha during a press conference held at the state Congress building today.

The event was attended by notable figures including former state Congress president Piyush Kanti Biswas, state women’s Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, and women’s Congress state observer Momtaz Begum, among other leaders.

Saha emphasized the Indian National Congress’s ongoing efforts to encourage and empower women in various aspects of administration, particularly in political representation.

Momtaz Begum, Province Observer of Mahila Congress, highlighted that the Indira Fellowship Programme is a tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. She reiterated the party’s commitment to empowering women in administration and political representation. According to Begum, Rahul Gandhi is strongly committed to ensuring greater participation of women in politics and nation-building, urging women to join the Shakti Abhiyan movement.

Begum further explained that the Indira Fellowship is a crucial part of the Shakti Abhiyan initiative, designed to provide a platform for women. The Congress party aims to ensure that women receive a 50% share in resources, opportunities, and power structures. She expressed her determination to play a key role in building a constructive society with women at the forefront of the Shakti Abhiyan.
