Tripura Receives Significant Central Funding for Tourism Development

Agartala, September 5: The Central Government’s Ministry of Tourism has allocated ₹25.26 crores to Tripura for tourism development over the past three financial years. This information was revealed by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in response to a written query by MLA Nayan Sarkar in the Tripura Assembly on Thursday.

The Minister stated that the funds have been utilized for various tourism development projects, including the development of the Mata Tripurasundari Temple complex in Udaipur, aiming to transform it into a spiritual tourism hub. He expressed hope that the construction work at the temple would be completed within the current financial year.

Chowdhury also mentioned that the state government is actively working on developing new tourism destinations. Ongoing projects include the Surmachhara Waterfalls tourism center in Kamalpur, Shahid Dhananjay Smriti Udyan in South Tripura, Bharat-Bangla Maitri Udyan in Chotakhala, and the Boxanagar Buddhist Stupa.

Additionally, the state has undertaken initiatives to develop Unkote and Agartala as destinations under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. A project to create a “Tripura Heritage Village and Tripura Music Experience” centered around the tea garden in Sachindranagar Colony, Jirania sub-division, has also been initiated.

Furthermore, the Minister announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation and the National Highways Logistics Management for the construction of ropeways connecting Udaipur Railway Station to Matabari, Maharani to Chabimura, Surmachhara, and Jampuijhill.
