Agartala: July 17: In a span of just 40 days, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has encountered significant challenges, highlighting the ever-changing landscape of politics.

While the BJP was not defeated outright, it failed to secure an independent majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party’s inability to secure a clear mandate indicates shifting dynamics in the political arena. Over the same period, by-elections for 13 seats took place, and the BJP managed to win only two of them. The remaining 10 seats were claimed by the India Alliance, and one seat went to an independent candidate who defeated the BJP nominee.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which plays a pivotal role in the BJP, expressed concern over these results. The party must introspect and adapt, recognizing that past successes do not guarantee perpetual dominance.

At a memorial meeting, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar emphasized that the situation is dynamic, and the fight must continue. He urged people to unite against anti-people activities, advocating for peaceful protests and other initiatives. Following the recent murder of Bappal Seal, a candidate from Rajnagar, people spontaneously observed a bandh. Despite the BJP’s appeal against participating, citizens refrained from leaving their homes, going to markets, or using cars. The decline in participation during Kharich Puja underscores growing public disillusionment with the government.

In this ever-evolving political landscape, parties must remain vigilant and responsive to the changing sentiments of the electorate.
