In response to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) warning about Cyclone Remal’s potential impact, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh (IAS) took swift action. On Sunday, he convened an emergency video conference with all Additional General Managers and Deputy General Managers of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The primary objective was to safeguard the state’s power infrastructure and expedite repairs in the aftermath of the cyclone.

During the video conference, Secretary Singh issued clear directives to TSECL officials across districts, sub-divisions, and departmental offices. Their presence on the ground was crucial to monitor potential damage caused by the storm. Singh emphasized the need to prevent injuries resulting from downed power lines or other infrastructure disruptions. Additionally, he urged the TSECL’s toll-free call center to proactively address any issues reported by citizens.

Key figures, including Debashish Sarkar (Managing Director of TSECL), General Manager Swapan Debbarma, and Additional General Manager Kanak Lal Das, participated in the meeting. Responsible officers and engineers from various circles and divisions also joined the video conference.

Assurances flowed during the discussion, with all participants committed to maintaining uninterrupted power supply. They assured Secretary Singh that preparations were underway to swiftly address any disruptions caused by Cyclone Remal. Cooperation from the state’s residents was sought to facilitate a coordinated response.

Notably, IMD sources predict that Cyclone Remal will make landfall near Mongla in Bangladesh via India’s Sagardeep and Khepupara regions between 11 pm and 1 am on Sunday. While Tripura may experience its impact, the maximum wind speed during this period is expected to reach 135 kilometers per hour.
