ONGC holds cycle rally (12/3/2017)
As part of the nationwide program for observation of energy conservation fortnight ONGC Tripura asset held a mega cycle rally named Cyclothon with a few hundred professionals and students today at Agartala pledging to reduce the use of fossil fuel and misuse of conventional sources of energy. Tripura chief secretary Sanjeev Ranjan flagged off the rally in the morning at Vivekananda stadium and it moved across VIP road up to New Capital complex to an aim to encourage and enhance the mass awareness of using bi-cycle for shorter trip and opt public transport for travel instead of individual mortised vehicles. ONGC Tripura chief Goutam Singha Roy said that ONGC in association with Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) has launched the Pan India campaign to stop misuse of energy following the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reiterating the contention he said prime minister has urged to citizens of India not use vehicles at least one day in a week to conserve fuels and contribute towards carbon neutral nation-building initiative. The promotion of cycling through this event is aimed at instilling socio-environmental consciousness among citizens towards the larger aim of conserving foreign exchange on fuel imports. "Cycling is not only for caring environment or conservation of energy sources but also for health of the individual and increase the mobility in urban life, which is gradually reducing due to excessive inclusion of fuel driven vehicle," said chief secretary.
