FIR filed against Pradyot (2/9/2020)
The Nagarik Surakhsha Manch of Kanchanpur has filed an FIR against Tripura royal scion, Pradyot Manikya Debbarman for allegedly attempting to fuel communal tension in the wake of the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 in the state. Diptanu Debnath, the leader of Nagarik Surakhsha Manch, alleged that recently Pradyot Debbarman made statements against the majority community adding that Debbarman had directly mentioned that it was because of some communities, the tribals have become minority in their own state. Diptanu said that his (Debbarman) direct or oblique reference to a particular community put the entire community in a poor light and makes them potentially dangerous for communal peace and harmony. “Such communal statement is unacceptable,” he said. Debnath further stated that the Manch has lodged a FIR against Pradyot Kishore Debbarman in Kanchanpur Police Station for making such communal statements against a particular community. Debnath pointed out that the people in Kanchanpur both the indigenous and non-indigenous people have lived in peace even during the ethnic violence in the 1980s.
